Sparse Discrete Ordinates Method in Radiative Transfer
The stationary monochromatic radiative transfer equation (RTE) is a partial differential transport equation stated on a five-dimensional phase space, the Cartesian product of physical and angular domain. We solve the RTE with a Galerkin FEM in physical space and collocation in angle, corresponding to a discrete ordinates method (DOM). To reduce the complexity of the problem and to avoid the “cu...
متن کاملA New Version of the Discrete-ordinates Method
A discussion of a modern version of the discrete-ordinates method is given, and in order to demonstrate well some aspects of the method, a very basic transport model is used to solve the elementary critical problem for a bare slab and for a bare cylinder. In addition to numerical results for these basic applications, various extensions of the method made to more challenging problems are noted.
متن کاملAn Improved Parallelism Scheme for Deterministic Discrete Ordinates Transport
In this paper we demonstrate techniques for increasing the node-level parallelism of a deterministic discrete ordinates neutral particle transport algorithm on a structured mesh to exploit many-core technologies. Transport calculations form a large part of the computational workload of physical simulations and so good performance is vital for the simulations to complete in reasonable time. We w...

A Spatial Multigrid Iterative Method for Two-Dimensional Discrete-Ordinates Transport Problems. (May 2005) Brian David Lansrud, B.S., Texas A&M University; B.S., Texas A&M University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Marvin L. Adams Iterative solutions of the Boltzmann transport equation are computationally intensive. Spatial multigrid methods have led to efficient iterative algorithms for solvi...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional Transient Radiative Heat Transfer Using Discrete Ordinates Method
The S-N discrete ordinates (DO) method is developed for the first time to solve transient radiative heat transfer in a two-dimensional rectangular enclosure with absorbing, emitting, and anisotropically scattering medium subject to diffuse and/or collimated laser irradiation. The transient DO method is used to solve several example problems and compared with the existing results and the Monte C...
